Recognition of Prior Academic Jewish Studies
The following guidelines apply to requests for recognition of prior academic coursework in Jewish Studies completed after the age of 18, toward fulfillment of the Olamot – School of Jewish Studies and Israeli Culture requirements for a master’s or doctoral degree.
- Requests for recognition of prior Jewish Studies coursework may be submitted only after admission to the University and during the first year of study.
- Please note that, in accordance with the regulations of the Council for Higher Education, secondary-school studies cannot be recognized for academic credit.
- Studies completed in a yeshiva, midrasha, non-academic Torah-study program, or any other non-academic framework cannot be recognized toward fulfillment of the Olamot studies requirement.
- Prior academic coursework in Jewish Studies totaling at least 4 credits may be recognized toward the Olamot studies requirement, provided that it was completed in addition to the requirements of a previous academic degree.
- Students who completed Jewish Studies courses in addition to the requirements of a previous academic degree must submit a request through the In-Bar portal for recognition of these courses toward the Olamot studies requirement for their master’s or doctoral degree. The request must include an official transcript or confirmation of Jewish Studies courses completed beyond the requirements of the previous degree and not used toward any other academic requirement. Please do not attach the “Study Balance” report.
- Documentation of Jewish Studies courses completed at an academic institution beyond the requirements of the previous degree must include the institution’s logo, an authorized signature and institutional stamp, the student’s full name and ID number, the period of study, and details of the Jewish Studies courses completed beyond the requirements of the disciplinary degree, including a numerical grade.
- Students who completed Olamot courses (course codes 01/02/03/04) on an audit basis must submit a request for recognition of these courses toward the Olamot studies requirement, provided that the courses were not used toward any other academic requirement.
- Recognition of prior studies may have financial implications for tuition fees in the academic year in which recognition is granted. Students are therefore advised to contact the Tuition Office directly for clarification before submitting their request through the In-Bar portal.
Before submitting a request, please make sure that all required documentation is complete and meets the requirements outlined above.
Please note that only requests accompanied by complete and valid documentation in accordance with these guidelines will be reviewed.
